There’s hardly anything that we can do about the natural shape and size of our eyes as those are determined genetically. But, by using clever make-up techniques, we can always create an illusion of big, beautiful eyes. Here we will take you through some simple tips and tricks to make your eyes look bigger.
1. Groom The Broom
There is nothing more unflattering than unkempt eyebrows on a woman’s forehead. Take a trip to the salon at frequent intervals, and keep the brows in good shape. Follow the natural shape of your eyes.
For those who want to keep your brows bold, keep in mind that you have to maximize the space you have so that it creates an illusion of bigger looking eyes. Bold, thick, and beautiful brows bring attention to the eyes. The difference between natural brows and over-tweezed arches is that the natural makes one look more innocent, while the latter makes you appear older.
Pro Tip: To get those full and expressive brows, brush them up with clear brow mascara.
2. All About The Base
To create big, attractive eyes, begin with an eyeshadow base – something that’s a bit messy so that it holds the shadow. So, if your lid is parched, you can use a concealer, but if your eyelid is warm, you must use a base that will moisturize your lids and keep your makeup looking smooth. We recommend MAC Prep + Prime Lash.
3. Say No To Under Eye Dark Circles
Using a concealer to cover up the dark circles will not make your eyes look bigger, but at least, the dark circles will not draw attention to them when someone is looking at your eyes. So, this step is really important.
Color correct your blemishes and dark circles with an illuminating concealer. Ensure you use a shade slightly lighter than your foundation to lift and enhance your look. We recommend the light and creamy YSL Touche Eclat and smooth MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, which is also a great cover-up for spots.
4. Bright And White Eye Shadow
To make your eyes look bigger, smear your eyelids with white shadow. You can also use a white eye pencil in the inner corners of your eyes. This look will instantly give you an illusion of a “facelift” and make you appear doe-eyed.
Pro Tip: The shadow can be shimmery or of matte finish; it doesn’t matter as long as it is light in color.
Another effective tip to enlarge eyes is by applying a darker shade around the outer corners of your eyes, in the shape of a “V”. Then, using a blending brush, blend it evenly. This will instantly make your eyes stand out and look large!
5. Perfecto Liner
To enhance your lashes, draw your liner as close to the upper lashline as possible, and make sure you increase the thickness gradually towards the outer corners. The new Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner is apt for that full-on definition look. Mind the eyeliner gaps by using a small, stiff brush, and apply a gel eyeliner in hard-to-reach places.
6. No Overdoing Eyeliner
When lining the eyes, do circle the eye with the black eyeliner. Avoid applying kajal on the inner rim of the lower lash-line; instead keep it outside the lash line. Also, do not extend this line up to the tear duct. Start lining from the outer corner and stop after two-third of the lash is covered.
7. Curling Up
An eyelash curler is to women what a sports car is to men. For those big eyes, ensure that you fully cup the lashes in the curler closer to the roots. Our favorites are E.L.F. Studio Eyelash Curler and Sally Hansen La Cross Double Curl Eyelash Curler.
8. The Nude Effect
Remember Rekha’s pictures from all award functions? She usually wears a white eye pencil on the inner rim of the lower lash line. Now, considering the Indian skin-tone, a white eye pencil may not be the most flattering one to use, so you may use a nude eye pencil to line the lash line. The nude pencil will also look more natural than white, and can be worn during the day time too. Try Bourjois Khol and Contour Eyeliner Pencil- 08 Rose Fantaisiste, or MAC Chromagraphic Pencil.
9. O’ Holy Mascara
The magic wand for makeup, a good mascara can make your eyes look bigger and thicker in no time. We suggest Clinique’s High Impact Mascara, and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara for that oomph factor. For those battable lashes and added glam, try applying three to four coats on the outer corners of the eye to create doe shaped eyes.
10. Contour The Crease
As essential it is to shade your cheeks to give them definition, contouring your eyelids is equally important to give them shape. Sweep a medium brown eyeshadow or any shadow that is slightly darker than your natural skin tone in the crease.
11. Bid Puffiness Goodbye
The key to gorgeous eyes is by pampering them right, every day. The swollen skin around the eyes can make them look very small. Here is how you can reduce puffiness around the eyes.
- Sleep enough
- Wash your face with cold water often
- Place used cold teabags over the eyes as the tannins present in tea tighten the skin.
- Reduce salt intake
